TWU Local 100 Retirees Association was founded in 1973 as an organization dedicated to defending the economic and social status of retirees and to preserving a lifelong connection to our union.
We are an independent organization with a fully staffed office in the TWU Local offices at 195 Montague St., Brooklyn. We are self-funded by the modest annual dues ($50 per year for single, $85 per year for retiree and spouse) paid by our volunteer members.
Even though we have a strong association with TWU Local 100, we are guided by Association by-laws and an Executive Board of retiree-members.
The Association staff is on call Monday through Friday during normal working hours to answer a high volume of calls on a range of questions from pension to retiree health care concerns and supplemental benefits.
The Association functions to protect, preserve and improve the social and economic status of retirees within the traditional values of the trade union movement.
We engage in political education through our own self-funded Political Action Committee, and we participate in social, cultural, civic and charitable activities. Our goals are always to further the interests of the organizations and our retiree members.
Where possible, we support the activities of TWU local 100, and we assist the Local and International Union before federal, New York State and New York City governments to provide a secure and healthy retirement for retired members of TWU Local 100.
We also support the actions in Local 100’s efforts to negotiate fair and just terms of its labor agreements that relate to retirement benefits. The TWU Local 100 Retirees Association is affiliated with the New York State Alliance for Retired Americans and the national Association for Retired Americans. Both organizations are made up of retired union members from across New York State and across America, respectively. All members of the TWU Local 100 Retirees Association are automatically enrolled in the New York State Alliance for Retired Americans, at Association cost.
